3rd Annual Extortion 17 Memorial Ride August 2, 2014 Virginia Beach, VA

IN HONOR OF OUR FALLEN HEROES OF AUGUST 6, 2011

About the Ride

About the Ride

On August 6, 2011, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was tragically shot down by enemy fire in Afghanistan resulting in the worst loss of life in a single incident during the Afghanistan campaign. 30 active duty military, and 1 military working dog, were killed in action on this day leaving shocked and broken families in their wake.

To celebrate these incredible lives and support families of fallen heroes, the 3rd Annual Extortion 17 Memorial Ride will take place on August 2, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA. Since the rides inception in 2012, this event has raised over $335,000 for the families of Extortion 17 (2012) and key charity partners (2013). Over 2,000 motorcycle riders and passengers have participated in this annual event since 2012.

All proceeds from the 2014 Extortion 17 Memorial Ride will go to The 31Heroes Project and The Travis Manion Foundation. The 31Heroes Project was established to honor the 30 Americans and a working dog killed in action on August 6, 2011. Today, 31Heroes serves to impact the lives of our nation’s heroes and their families, while remembering the fallen, through athletic endeavors and competitive fundraising events. The Travis Manion Foundation’s mission is to assist veterans and fallen heroes, and to inspire a spirit of service throughout the nation. The Extortion 17 Memorial Ride’s mission is to honor and commemorate the heroes lost on August 6, 2011 through an annual memorial motorcycle ride, thereby ensuring that all families of the fallen are cared for after the loss of their loved one.

2014 Extortion 17 Memorial Ride

Once again set in Virginia Beach, VA, the overwhelming community support sets an appropriate backdrop to commemorate the lives of America’s Heroes.

Pre-registration is now closed online. However, you can still register at the event! Registration starts at Lendy's Cafe on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM (EDT).

If you cannot make it to Virginia Beach, Virtual Rider registration is still open! As a Virtual Rider, you will be sent the event t-shirt and complete the ride in your own hometown! Support our heroes on August 2nd by taking a ride around town in honor of their sacrifice!

The Extortion 17 Memorial Ride is thrilled to have another auction this year. This has been a huge part of our ability to give back to the partner charities. In order to ensure we have the highest participation during the auction, the event needs to have an online platform. This online auction helps us draw a larger crowd and raise more money. In turn, we have to pay a premium of 18.5% (16.5% with check) for online purchases. This is a tough decision, but the ability to have more supporters bidding on the items ensures we raise more money overall to give the the Travis Manion Foundation and 31Heroes. If you are joining us in person, or can have a representative present, we only pay 3%. This is a significant difference, but we still believe in the need to have the online platform. If you can, come join us on the day of the event or send a representative. Thank you for your understanding!
